In the case where the death has been expected, The doctor looking after your loved one will produce the medical certificate of death. This will then be sent to the local registrar who will then give you an appointment to register the death.
If you are unable to visit the registrar in the area where the death occurred, ask for a registration ‘By Declaration’. This relies on the Royal Mail or courier so allow extra time for this to take place.
The registrar will complete and send us the Permission to cremate of bury certificate, when this has been produced we can begin the funeral arrangements.
The Registrar will issue Death Certificates to yourself, which cost £11 each. You might need 3-5 copies to send to the bank, solicitors etc., depending on the complexity of the estate.
If a death has been unexpected, the GP or emergency services will refer the case to the local coroner. If the coroner requests a further examination of the deceased to establish the cause of death then an evasive post mortem will have to take place.
Once the post mortem has taken place the deceased can be released to the care of the funeral director, the funeral arrangements can take place and an inquest will take place at a further date.
An inquest is called if circumstances surrounding the death need further investigation – perhaps following concern over nursing or medical care, use of alcohol or drugs while in care, sudden unexplained death, suspected foul play, or possibly to ‘learn the lessons’ for future such cases.
If an inquest is called, it is immediately adjourned to allow for the facts to be gathered, and need not delay the funeral.
We have a standard range of oak veneered coffins with silver fittings, these are FMMA approved coffins suitable for burials and cremations. However, we can source a wide range of coffins, caskets and urns at your choice.
In each limousine there is room for six people in the rear compartment and room for one in the front with the driver, i.e. a maximum of seven.
No. There are strict laws regarding cremation. Nothing may be removed from the coffin before cremation without the permission of the Home Office.
Yes. The identity of the coffin nameplate is checked by the Crematorium Attendant before it is placed in the Cremation Chamber. This only holds one coffin or casket at a time and again there are rules that must be abided.
The DSS Social Fund awards financial assistance to individuals who meet a number of criteria. To qualify you, and all other family members who share your responsibility for the funeral, must be receiving at least one of several benefits, and have insufficient savings to pay for the funeral.
The DSS Funeral Payment will provide a limited amount which may cover a very basic funeral, or provide a contribution towards a more traditional funeral. Your Funeral Director will be able to advise you about the qualifying criteria and the likely contribution available.
There are a number of different options and we are willing to discuss your choices for an environmentally friendly funeral.
